Abstract:

In 1994, after twelve years of exile in Mexican refugee camps, two thousand Guatemalans returned to their homeland in the rural Ixcán region. Their homecoming is imperfect. Many call them "the enemy." The army, which carried out massacres in 1982, is ever-present. And the memory of family members murdered or expelled haunts many. The film follows a group to the village of Cuarto Pueblo. The refugees speak of their hopes and fears while re-establishing their lives.
